Well...I don't want to say that I didn't have high expectations coming into GCRC, but I did. I was expecting it to be this and this and it turned out being nothing like what I thought it was going to be. However, just because it wasn't what I expected it to be, its been interesting for the most part. There have been times where I was soo incredibly bored! But, I understand that it's the first few days and we still have to get past all the rigamarole and paperwork. I'll just briefly talk about each day to give you a better and deeper understanding of how I felt.
Hmm..the first day.
This day was the most boring. The main problem was having to sit in a sit for hours. I'm a very kinesthetic person and I love moving around and being very hands-on, so that was most definitely not my walk in the park. Also, having to learn about all those different databases was not very interesting, but I tried to pay attention. I did lose focus and started playing games, but when Mrs. Ann caught me, I stopped. Also, I didn't really enjoy having Jerell be the "teacher" for a day. Don't get me wrong, Jerell is one of my best buddies, I just didn't like being lectured to by him.
Day two...still rolling!
This day was much more fun! There was less structured time and we weren't closely supervised like children. I liked that we were trusted enough to be left alone and show that we know how to behave and get our work done. However, all those trainings were pretty rough..especially the Human Subjects training. I really despise that training. Also, I liked presenting our information to Mrs. Amy and the lady in training. It made me feel like I was already a scientist/researcher delivering a speech over new findings instead of just an intern who had to do an assignment given to them by their classmate.
Day three...things are looking up!
This day was fun. I really enjoyed meeting all the people in Mrs. Cupertino's office. Everyone there is really nice and the way they explained their work really interested me. Currently, I want to study surgery, but the things they explained sounded so interesting, I'm not sure if I want to change my major now :P. Also, I was confused in the beginning because mostly everyone had been introduced to their mentors but I hadn't. For a second I thought that they had forgotten about Katy and I, but later on she (meaning my research mentor) came in and introduced herself. I'm glad I got paired with her! She seems very funny and seems like someone who I can approach in a professional way and yet friendly way as well. Also, her work seemed very interesting! I can't wait to start working with her. Also, the chairman knew of my college! That was exciting considering most people have never heard of it.
But, I'm looking forward to next week!
